I lived in Hong Kong when it was a British colony. One of the things I found comforting when I visited London a few years ago was the big red post boxes on the streets. The postboxes were one of the colonial items I was familiar with when I was a child. I also realized the contrast between the Chinese no-posting warning on the post boxes and the British insignia was unique to Hong Kong. For this tote, I added the calligraphy graffiti work of Mr. Tsang Tsou Choi on the back of the bag. Another significant element I remember of the streets of the city. He marked the streets of Hong Kong with his distinctive calligraphy. It was his way to claim the land of Kowloon belongs to his ancestors. He also called himself the King of Kowloon. His graffiti work influenced a lot of designers. Photographs of his work have toured in shows, featured in movies and exhibitions.
